OLD TOWN HISTORIC DISTRICT- Huntsville, AL
Almost entirely residential in nature, the Old Town Historic District was established in 1974 as Huntsville AL’s second historic district and was created based on a petition by its residents to protect and preserve the structures present on the 100 acre section of land included in its boundaries. The community spirit that brought about its origination persists today—members of Old Town produce a newsletter and each year host a breathtaking display of holiday luminaries each December. Dotted with a pleasing landscape of Colonial, Queen Anne, and modest Victorian homes, this very active, family-focused community bustles regularly with garden tours and ice cream socials, is home to the City’s offices of the Board of Education, and hums regularly with the voices of children walking to and from school on East Clinton Avenue, in one of the City’s last remaining examples of Art Deco construction.
